I thought this was a marvellous notion and was duly set up and began to get going. Some time later, I have finally wrangled it into semi-acceptable shape, and I believe it is now in a fit state to be presented to the world. 	2008.03.08  17.49 LGBT Fest! LGBT Fest's prompts are now available for claiming, from now until March 15th. With 901 prompts to choose from in a huge variety of fandoms covering all kinds of different subject matter centered around the experience of being queer in some way or other, this looks like it's going to produce some fascinating stories. Peruse prompts here, the calendar of posting dates here, and claim your prompt and date here! I've snagged this, which is a story I've been meaning to write for ages anyway: Luna has always had as open, untroubled, and inquisitive an attitude toward sexuality as toward everything else, but other people aren't quite so accepting. Exciting stuff!

The Hardest Part Andromeda's got a choice to make, she needs to make it soon. Andromeda/Ted, the Black family, PG, 1700 words. Whoverse: Connecting Strokes It's all in the wrist, apparently. 	2008.02.04  00.45 Round Up I am horrible at IJ. Seriously, the last time I posted something on here was September, apparently. Oops! Anyway, new thing - regular round-ups of what's going on back on LJ, both handy for me and useful for anyone else who happened to be interested. A good way to start, I'm trying out monthly fic round ups, so, without further ado: Posted in January: (some of these were written as early as November, but such is the nature of exchanges I suppose.) Harry Potter: All Ye Faithful HP, Neville, others PG-13, 5700 words Neville can't bear to leave Hogwarts in the holidays, but a happy Christmas may be hard to find. -- I'm pleased I wrote this. One of the nice things about exchanges is how they often push me to try something new, and this was certainly that. Also, Neville. ♥ Rainstorms HP, Padma/Luna PG-13, 3500 words The first time Padma noticed Luna Lovegood, really noticed her, she was standing outside in the pouring rain. -- I remain very fond of this one. If possible, I do believe it made me like Luna even more. These Bright Lights Calling HP, Remus/Sirius PG-13, 1500 words Seven times Remus thought he was invincible. -- I've written these two so many times now that it's sometimes a bit tricky to find anything new worth saying. But I got there in the end - when in doubt, write vignettes, apparently! This let me remind myself about lots of little things I love about the Marauders. Other Fandoms: Make Believe Skins, Cassie PG, 1500 words Queen Cassie would like to present herself to her royal court -- Ah, Yuletide. This reminds me, actually, I'm really rather excited for Skins starting back up again! Four Midsummers His Dark Materials, Will PG, 1500 words Four of Will's Midsummer days. -- A small sample of things I would still love to write about this lot, and yet manage to fail to get around to. One day, one day! The Night Shift Firefly, Kaylee, Wash, Zoe PG, 1000 words The stars shine bright when you can't sleep. -- I love the language of this universe so, so much, and intend on further practice in manipulating it for my own devices. And the friendship between Kaylee and Wash is one of my favourite little things about the programme. World Enough and Time Torchwood, Jack/Ianto, team PG-13, 900 words Jack has never been more grateful for the here and now. -- Or, basically, some of my personal canon for the Year That Never Was. With added Ianto, just because. :) --- Coming up: I have my three (!) stories from hp_quotathon to post; also, I have an idea floating around from the latest episode of Torchwood that I haven't really had time to work out the specifics of yet, but I'm hoping that will pop up soon.

	2007.09.10  16.35 HP Quotathon Eesh, the backlog, it burns. I have all sorts of fic and other posts bookmarked to read, which looks terribly exciting, but it may take me a while to get to it, so please bear with me. In the meantime, let's talk December exchanges for a moment, shall we? Plenty are up and running already, I know, but for those you who're still looking for some to do (because exchanges around the holidays are awesome, this is inarguable), might I tempt you with the following? hp_quotathon Modded by avendya, wanderlight, and I, this is a HP ship fic exchange for PG-13 rated stories or less, because low-rated romance often does not get enough love! Het, slash, and femmeslash are all welcome, popular and rare pairings alike. The other part of this particular exchange is that when signing up we ask you to provide a couple of quotes for your writer to choose from to get them started. 	2007.08.31  17.40 Some notes * Happy birthday, spikeyboots! Hope you are managing to celebrate somewhere on your travels. * I always forget what a nice response sometimes comes of posting Remus/Sirius fic. *grins* It's very strange, though, I was looking through this year's stories, and my R/S output is exceedingly small, I hadn't quite realised. One ficlet, three birthday fics, and my remix. I've written much more gen compared to last year, and dabbled in other fandoms and a larger range of pairings, which have had varying degrees of response that I always find interesting. I'm fairly sure I had more to say about this, but my brain's died, and I'm not sure it was interesting anyway. * hp_summergen fic will be up tomorrow, I should think, tweaking is nearly complete. I do not know why I am so attached to it, but there we go. * On Sunday I'm going on holiday for a week - hurray! - and I think for the whole of September such_heights will be in a state of semi-hiatus. With uni careening around the corner at a rate, I've got all sorts of things to do, and when I get there I'm hoping to out and about as much as possible. So, in short, I'll keep up to speed as much as I can, but I can't promise to catch every post for the next month, and shall miss things next week especially. I'll have to reassess come October, I think. * Finally, a rec! The lovely wanderlight has written me fic! Eidolon PG, 850 words. Regulus and Sirius gen. The last time Regulus saw his brother was on Platform 9 and 3/4. And you should all read it, because her Regulus is utterly wonderful. :D

	2007.08.22  22.28 FIC: The World Is Waiting For You, from hp_summergen hp_summergen reveals are now up! I'll do a big recs post at some point. Also, I probably will tweak the first story I wrote, I Know Where The Summer Goes, a bit more before I post it, but here is my pinch-hit, which I was quite pleased with, in the end - it was a lot of fun to write a couple of characters I don't usually tackle. The World Is Waiting For You PG, 2500 words Hermione, Luna, Lavender, Neville Summary: Four scenes, four characters, one summer. A school, a place of things beyond their wildest imaginings, awaits. Notes: Written for st_aurafina at hp_summergen, originally posted here. ( Hermione liked the hot sun and the beach well enough, but it wasn't as good as the things she read about, stories about boarding schools and talking animals and magic wands. )

	2007.08.17  22.42 Three Recs Because I've just spent far, far too much time reading all of the Msscribe wank I feel the need to do something fandom-orientated that's a little more wholesome. hp_summergen has now finished posting, and reveals will go up in a few days, I believe, so I'll go through and pull out my favourites then. I'm tempted to rework mine a little to reflect DH, because for some reason it really is one of my favourite things I've written in ages, and with not too much effort I think it could incorporate new canon. We'll see whether I have the energy for that later, I suppose, and I'll put my pinch-hit up straight away in any case. But what I must mention before that is that I had a very lovely surprise today by receiving a second fic from the exchange through some lovely quirk of things. Feline Funerary Rites by anonymous at hp_summergen PG, Luna, Arabella Figg, Harry. When one of Arabella Figg's beloved cats dies, Luna Lovegood volunteers a makeshift funeral service. This is absolutely wonderful, with a brilliant young Luna, a great Mrs Figg, and a simple but very touching story. And now, two more stories I've really loved recently. Valedictory by _thirty2flavors for nest_of_spiders PG, Lily, James, Sirius, Harry. The night before the Fidelius Charm is performed, Lily and James say goodbye to those they won't be seeing. This is absolutely beautiful. I don't think I've ever read a take on this particular moment before, but this is perfect. The characterisation, the tone and the emotion of it all, it's just brilliant. Oh, and it made me cry, a response I've had to maybe a handful of fics. ♥ Putting Out Fires (with Gasoline) by fleshdress NC-17, Sirius/Snape, James/Lily, Lucius/Regulus, see header for other pairings and warnings. Three stories from the same night in the same city. Just your average sci-fi cyberpunk porn with psychics. Viewable on InsaneJournal here, or here on LJ if you're a member of daily_deviant. This is my favourite AU I've read in ages, I cannot flail over it enough. Don't be put off in any way if you don't think the pairings are your cup of tea, for starters, because they really work in the context. This is the First War, Bladerunner-esque style, and it is fascinating and complex and just genius, really. Canon is fantastically transposed into these new surroundings, and what surroundings they are. I love this world, so much. Oh, and it's worth reading for the James/Lily segment alone, which is smoking hot. And now to try and not get sucked back into the black hole of fandom wank. Also, I know there's a few things I should be attending to, which I promise I will get to soon! My brain's not been functioning so well today. Mood: ill

	2007.08.04  17.14 FIC: Still We Wait [spoilers] I know, I know, I keep churning them out at the moment, don't I? But I lose at predictions, thus owe fic for dh_predictions. Still We Wait PG, 800 words. Lily, James, Remus, Sirius. Mostly gen. Contains DH spoilers Summary: The end of the war, on the other side. Notes: Written to onehundredmoons's request of your own DH epilogue, set only a few hours/days/weeks after the final battle, told either from earth or from the "other side". Ended being a little esoteric, but I hope it suits! And though Dumbledore had said Harry would be safe, how could I believe him, after all that we had seen? And so we waited - just the four of us at first, those who had helped him on his way.

	2007.08.03  12.12 FIC: The River, Luna First off, if all goes pear-shaped, I'm such_heights at both GreatestJournal and InsaneJournal (as of just now), I'll try and add people as I find you. But on a happier note, here's fic no. 2 from Hogsmeade at hogwarts_elite that, like my Regulus genfic, was placed! :D The River PG, 900 words Luna Summary: Luna dives deep to find a Horcrux. Notes: As this was written pre-DH, this is hopelessly AU, and contains no spoilers whatsoever. Posted here mostly for posterity. ( She had to suppress a laugh at the strange, tickling sensation that developed as she ran down to the river, kicking off her shoes and burying them under a rock before diving into the depths without a sound. )

	2007.07.31  09.02 FIC: The Only Son, Regulus The Only Son Regulus & the Black family PG-13, 1500 words. Summary: "The only future prospect of a dying family. And look at you." Bellatrix shakes her head, lips pressed and cold. Notes: Originally entered for Hogsmeade at hogwarts_elite. Written pre-DH, so is slightly AU towards the end. ( Bellatrix's gaze is harsh, and her words are taunting in Regulus' ears. )

	2007.07.30  22.39 Pimping His Dark Materials His Dark Materials: A Pimping Post This post attempts to address three areas: one, to encourage those that are unfamiliar with the series to give it a try; two, to remind those who have read and enjoyed the trilogy of its merits, and to suggest it deserves greater fannish attention than it receives; and three, to propose that the forthcoming cinematic adaptation of The Golden Compass is likely to provide an excellent opportunity for the fandom to grow, and wouldn't you like to be ahead of the game? 	2007.07.29  22.55 His Dark Materials, Crossover Rec, Nest of Spiders Hmm. Fic deadlines have been creeping up on me somewhat. And when I say creeping up on me, what I mean is that I have a His Dark Materials fic and pimping essay due for smallfandomfest on Tuesday, have yet to start either, and precious little time between now and then to do them! I'm not entirely sure how that happened. However, I am on a HDM kick at the moment, so hopefully I'll work something out and not be too terribly tardy. Whilst we're on the subject of HDM, I am now much, much more excited about the film in December having seen the super long, super awesome trailer here, courtesy of samincittagazze. :D And Thing Three regarding HDM... my dw_cross story went up today! *squees madly* I am so thrilled someone picked my Doctor & Lyra prompt, and the result is wonderful. The Other Earth by anonymous at dw_cross Doctor Who/His Dark Materials; G; Ten, Lyra, Pantalaimon This is beautiful and heart-breaking, just the Doctor and Lyra finding kindred spirits in each other and being lost and lonely together - Lyra's POV is perfectly drawn and the amount of passionate emotion crammed into what is really a small, quiet moment is fabulous. ♥ And finally, some pimping: nest_of_spiders is back! sambethe, magnetic_pole, wanderlight and I will be taking you through next month with prompts to get the juices flowing for any and all First War-era fic and art. To borrow a Baggins-ism, I don't know half of you half as well as I should like.
